Eid Prayer
The Eid prayer is a two rak'ah prayer performed on the morning of Eid. The three extra takbîrs in both rak'ahs of this prayer are called ‘zawâid takbîrs’. These takbîrs, which are wajib, are taken before the qiraah in the first rak'ah and after the qiraah in the second rak'ah.
In Friday prayers, the khutba is recited before the fard, and in Eid prayers, the khutba is recited after the prayer. The khutba is started with takbîr, and the congregation joins the takbîr with a light voice.
When is the Eid prayer performed?
The first time for Eid prayer is 45 minutes after sunrise and the last time is until the sun reaches zawal. The Eid prayer is not permissible after the time of zawal. In Eid al-Fitr, it is permissible to delay the Eid prayer until the dawn of the next day with an excuse. However, in Eid al-Adha, it is permissible to delay the Eid prayer until dawn on the third day of Eid with or without an excuse.
How many rak'ahs is the Eid prayer?
Eid prayer is performed as follows: ‘I intend to perform the Eid prayer for the sake of Allah, and I follow the imam who is present’. After the iftitâh takbîri is taken with the imam by saying ‘Allâhu Akbar’, hands are tied.
-After the ‘Sübhâneke’, the imam says ‘Allâhu Akbar’ aloud and the congregation says ‘Allâhu Akbar’ silently, raises his hands to his ears and spreads them to the sides; again raises his hands and takes the second takbîr and spreads his hands to the sides; when the third takbîr is taken, the hands are tied. The Imam recites Fâtiha-i sharîfa and zammı sûrah (a sûrah or at least three verses) openly and the congregation listens. After the ruku and sajda, the second rak'ah is started.
-In the second rak'ah, the imam first recites Fâtiha and then the zammı sûra. Then the takbir is taken three times and the hands are spread to the sides after each takbir, the fourth takbîr leads to the ruku and the prayer is completed.
What are the Takbirs of Tashrik? How are they recited?
Tashrik takbir:
It means ‘Allâhu akbar Allâhu akbar, Lâ Ilâhe ilallâhu wallâhu akbar, Allâhu akbar and lillâhilhamd’.
اَللهُ اَكْبَرْ اَللهُ اَكْبَرْ اَللهُ اَكْبَرْ
Jabrâil ‘alaihis-salâm’ recited the words (Allâhu akbar Allâhu akbar) when Abraham ‘alaihis-salâm’ was about to sacrifice Ismâ'il ‘alaihis-salâm’.
When he heard this takbir, Abraham ‘alaihis-salâm’ said:
لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَاللهُ اَكْبَرْ
(He said, ‘I am not a Muslim.’ He said, ‘I am not a Muslim. Ismâil
When he realised that it would not be cut:
اَللهُ اَكْبَرْ وَ ِلللهِ الْحَمْدْ
(Allâhu akbar wa lillâhilhamd).
The first time of this takbir is after the salutation of the fard of the Fajr prayer on the day of ‘Arafa. The last time is after the salutation of the Asr prayer on the thirteenth and fourth Eid day of the month of Dhu'l-Hijjah. The takbirs are completed in twenty-three times.
In these twenty-three times, whoever has five obligatory prayers, it is obligatory for him to recite takbir immediately when he salutes from the obligatory prayers.
The imam, the congregation, the prayer leader, the lahik, the one who prays alone, the guest, the city dweller, the villager, all are the same.
When he bows to his left side, it is wajib to say takbir without getting up from his seat, without leaving the mosque, and without saying worldly words. If he does not, he will be sinful. If he leaves the masjid without saying the takbir, or if he speaks intentionally or inadvertently, or if he breaks his wudoo' intentionally, the takbir is void. But if he inadvertently breaks his wudoo‘ after the salaam, he should say takbir without wudoo’. (Darru al-Muhtâr)
The takbir is not wajib after the Eid prayer. According to some ulema, it is mustahab.
